This diet focuses on diet quality rather than a single nutrient or food group. Basically, everyone can follow it. The food options are healthy and balanced enough for all ages. The Mediterranean diet is primarily plant-based and doesn’t require expensive groceries. You can modify it if you want it to be vegan, gluten-free, halal, or kosher-friendly.
So, how does it work?
Fill your plate with various foods – fruits, vegetables, whole grains, beans, nuts, legumes, olive oil, herbs, and spices. Eat seafood and fish at least once a week, preferably more. Although eggs, cheese, poultry, red meat, and sweets are okay if moderately consumed, try to reserve them as an occasional treat. Fix yourself a cheat day when you eat the things that should be consumed occasionally and pair them with a glass of red wine. Include the right weight loss supplements and you’re ready to go.
As I mentioned earlier, there isn’t a specific diet or set of instructions. It’s all about the principles. What is the definition of fasting? According to WebMD, “Simply put, it means you stop eating completely, or almost completely, for a certain stretch of time. In some cases, you may be allowed water, tea, and coffee or even a small amount of food during the “fasting period.”
Fasting has been around forever. It is common to about every major religious tradition, such as Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism. For example, during Ramadan, many Muslims fast from dawn to sunset every day. This has provided scientists and researchers with much data on what happens inside your body when you fast, and the results are pretty good.
Don’t forget that your body needs good nutrition to function at its highest level. Especially when fasting. It is only completely safe for healthy adults. Avoid fasting at any cost if you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a history of eating disorders.
My fasting plan was simple, and it worked. Each Thursday, I ate light, fiber-rich foods such as veggies, fruits, and nuts to prepare for Friday when I was fasting. Choose a day that suits you the most and hold on to it, don’t oscillate. You must catch a rhythm and keep doing it. I wasn’t eating ANYTHING on Friday – only drinking healthy green teas. It resulted in losing weight and feeling never better.
You can try it like the Muslims do for the best results in losing weight fast. Do it every day for an entire month. Avoid eating anything for at least 12 hours, don’t consume anything but water, and then eat lightly after the day. It’s crucial that you don’t over-eat when you do eat – that will trump all your efforts. Ultimately, it’s all about your daily calorie intake, and if you eat a whole pig for dinner, you don’t do anything. Control your urges.
The whole point of fasting to lose weight is to not eat at all, so it is crucial that you follow the rules and don’t eat anything. You will be hungry, but after a couple of days, it will get easier to fight the urge to eat. So make sure to keep going, and the results will follow.
